Standard 1

Teachers demonstrate mastery of and pedagogical expertise in the content they teach.  The elementary teacher is an expert in literacy and mathematics and is knowledgeable in all other content that he or she teachers (e.g., science, social studies, arts, physical education, or world languages). The secondary teacher has knowledge of literacy and mathematics and is an expert in his or her content endorsement area(s).

Within this standard, I believe I am in the proficient area. I believe there are some areas I can improve such as integrating mathematics within my lessons and teachings, however everything else is present such as literacy and history. By being organized and showing clear steps and instruction I am able to have more knowledge within my content and lessons. Throughout my student teaching I have been able to grow in this area by becoming more organized and have a clear plan on how to instruct things as well, this has in turn helped my students understand their expectations more and understand the content as well. I would like to continue in this standard by becoming more organized and having a clear plan for every lesson and everyday.

• Element a: Teachers provide instruction that is aligned with the Colorado Academic Standards, and their district’s organized plan of instruction.

this element is able to show how my lessons are able to align with the Colorado academic standards with my objectives for the specific lesson.

• Element B: Teachers develop and implement lessons that connect to a variety of content areas/disciplines and emphasize literacy and mathematical practices.

With both of these elements it is able to show how I was able to add literacy and mathematics. In my elementary placement, one of my lessons had to do with mosaics and introducing the unit. I added in short reading in which the class read aloud together in the beginning of class. In my second placement I taught a middle school painting class and this lesson was introducing landscapes. We learned about the rule of thirds and they were able to practice measuring the rule of thirds on their canvases during class.

• Element C: Teachers demonstrate knowledge of the content, central concepts, inquiry, appropriate evidence-based instructional practices, and specialized characteristics of the disciplines being taught

This element is able to show my knowledge on the content I am teaching through my slides. With this lesson I was able to share some background and history about the content I was teaching. Within every lesson I try to incorporate some background and history for the students to further their understanding on what they are creating.

Standard 2

Teachers establish a safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment for a diverse population of students.

After completing my student teaching, I feel very confident on this standard because my goal as a teacher is to make everyone feel safe and included within the classroom. Within my teaching philosophy I explain hpw I want my classroom to feel and look, working on relationship building and making sure my students are learning and understanding as much as they are able to. I want to make sure my students are getting enough help and reassurance to help them better understand the content as well as better understand who I am as a teacher to them. In the beginning of my student teaching, I found it easier to connect with some students rather than others, however, as I began teaching and talking to them, I found out more things about each one of my students such as what they like as well as how they learn. Once I figured out their process of learning I took my time to help them in that way which made me have more of a connection with them and creating a better learning environment for them. I believe I am accomplished in this category for these reasons and I want to make it a goal in the future to keep building on relationships with my students and making them feel safe in my classroom.

ELEMENT A: Teachers foster a predictable learning environment characterized by acceptable student behavior and efficient use of time in which each student has a positive, nurturing relationship with caring adults and peers.   â€‹

2022-10-31.png

This element shows how I was able to create a safe and predictable environment within the classroom by sharing the objectives for the day to show step by step on what we were going to accomplish for the day, as well as a virtue of the month for elementary students to help them make the classroom safe.

ELEMENT B: Teachers demonstrate an awareness of, a commitment to, and a respect for multiple aspects of diversity, while working toward common goals as a community of learners.

Within my teaching philosophy I share how I want my classroom to run and it is able to show that I am very committed to this career and I am able to care and understand different students learning styles.

ELEMENT C: Teachers engage students as individuals, including those with diverse needs and interests, across a range of ability levels by adapting their teaching for the benefit of all students.

Differentiation is very important in the classroom because everyone is able to learn differently. This element shows I was able to use differentiation with having an easy option to draw the dragon's body (left), and a hard option (right). It was up to the student's choice to try different ways to do this.

ELEMENT D: Teachers work collaboratively with the families and/or significant adults for the benefit of students.

  • Volunteer work

This element shows one of the volunteers work in order to prep for the student's artmaking that day. Most of the volunteers are the students parents, thus this is able to show how we are able to collaborate and work with students families and create relationships with them as well.

Standard 3

Teachers plan and deliver effective instruction and create an environment that facilitates learning for their students.

This standard was a bit of a struggle for me at first, however once I began trying new things and asking students what helps them the most I feel as though I grew as an educator even more. During my elementary placement I struggles with effective instruction in the beginning and classroom management, I learned that I had to list expectations and everything I wanted them to accomplish within a set amount of time first for them to do it quietly and efficiently. This helped me throughout the rest of my time there. Once I started my high school placement, it was a completely different environment and I had started in the middle of the semester which was difficult. Once I began building strong relationships and getting comfortable in the class, I feel I grew my skills of effective instruction and facilitate learning with my students. I feel as though this is an area I can continue to learn and grow in, and for that I would say I am proficient within this standard.

ELEMENT A: Teachers demonstrate knowledge about the ways in which learning takes place, including the levels of intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of their students. â€‹

differentiation3.jpg

This element it is able to show how differentiation was shown within the classroom. There are steps of the drawings on the board for students who struggle as well as kids who can catch up if they were gone. There are also different option for the students to choose on their own for their project.

ELEMENT B: Teachers use formal and informal methods to assess student learning, provide feedback, and use results to inform planning and instruction.

Each of these elements show how I was able to assess the students within each unit. for formal assessments, we gave them worksheets and quizzes to check their understanding of the content. For informal, we had them complete practices and rough drafts before beginning their final projects.

ELEMENT C: Teachers integrate and utilize appropriate available technology to engage students in authentic learning experiences.

doc cam.jpg

Within my classes, I was able to use the doc cam multiple times in order for the full class to see. When doing demo's it was able to help students in the back especially understand the content and what they need to accomplish their projects.

ELEMENT F: Teachers model and promote effective communication.

2022-10-31 (2).png

This is able to show one of my many ways of effective communications within the class. Clean up at the elementary school was always something that needed really effective and clear instructions. I found that putting a slide up with the expectations and instructions up was able to help the students clean up efficiently by the end of class.

ELEMENT E: Teachers provide students with opportunities to work in teams and develop leadership.

  • collaborative projects

mosaic 6.jpg
mosaic 3.jpg

These elements are able to show the collaboration within the classroom during one of my lessons. With this lesson, the students were making bean mosaics of a symbol that was representative with everyone within their group.

ELEMENT D: Teachers establish and communicate high expectations and use processes to support the development of critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.

2022-10-31 (1).png

In this artifact I was able to share how I was able to help the students know what each step was for their project and assignment in order for them to problem solve and have clear communication with my students. This was left on the board during the whole class.

Standard 4

Teachers demonstrate professionalism through ethical conduct, reflection, and leadership.

I feel as though within this standard I am very comfortable and confident in. I have always been able to keep professionalism throughout my whole student teaching by following the guidelines of the school as well as demonstrating professional leadership within my classes. Throughout my student teaching I kept high standards for myself with everything I did in the classroom, one of them being professional within my students. As I did this, I was also able to find a balance with being professional as well as building silly goofy relationships with my students and I believe this went very well. I would say I am accomplished in this standards because of these reasons. Of course I feel as though there is always something to work on with everything and I can always grow in this standard as well as every other standard to become a successful educator in the future.

ELEMENT A: Teachers demonstrate high standards for professional conduct.

  • dispositions

This is able to show how I had expectations for myself during my student teaching. Within my disposition reflections, I tried to reflect on everything in detail and how I can improve in the future as well as how I wanted to improve.

ELEMENT B: Teachers link professional growth to their professional goals.

Within my journal reflections I state my growth throughout my student teaching. I share all my experiences throughout my time and explain my goals as well as growths.

ELEMENT C: Teachers respond to a complex, dynamic environment.

2022-12-09 (2).png

With this element, I was able to show the dynamic environment I was in during my high school placement. In Highschool drawing there were students in drawing 1, 2, and 3 that were all in the same class. I was able to change the assignments slightly in order for them to create and grow within their level. It was challenging, however it became better as I learned each one of their strengths.

ELEMENT D: Teachers demonstrate leadership in the school, the community, and the teaching profession.

2022-12-09 (3).png

With this element, I added in a section from the Loveland Classical Schools handbook. Within the handbook it shows the core virtues of the school for which they expect everyone to go by. I believe I was able to exemplify these virtues throughout my whole student teaching experience. By exemplifying these it was able to help my connection with the students as well. It was also able to allow me to share my professionalism as an educator and show leadership within the classroom.

I added in one of my rubrics I had made during my student teaching, This is able to show my leadership within the school because I have taken apart in grading multiple assignments such as this one and discussed with the students on their grades.
