Dispositions

Reflections

Most comfortable with:

After my student teaching, I believe I would say the first disposition I am most comfortable with is Collegiality and Responsiveness. I feel as though I am always open to collaborate and share ideas with others as well as very open to receiving constructive criticism. Even before student teaching I was a very open minded person and always wanted to grow as an educator, artist, and individual. I have always loved working as a team in order to bounce ideas off of each other and come up with something amazing. I believe everyone is able to benefit from learning how to be efficient with working with others and it will help them grow as a person as well in the future. There was never a time I have been disrespectful because I want everyone to feel as though I am a safe person to talk to and I will respect everyone's needs and choices no matter my opinion on it. If there is something I need to fix in order for my students to understand or anyone to understand better, I want to be able to perfect that for the future with any situation. Overall with this disposition specifically I would say I am very confident with because I am always looking to improve on everything and am open to anything to do that.

Another disposition I feel confident on is Cultural Responsiveness. I have always been very open to the idea of creating a culturally inclusive environment within the classroom because it not only helps the students know more about things and people around them and learn more techniques and materials, it also is able to help the students feel included and safe within the classroom. Diversity is very important within the classroom because of this and I want to be able to incorporate this as much as I can within my classroom. In my elementary placement I was able to teach them about different cultures and their art practices such as Chinese and Japanese art. In the high school level I was able to bring more artists of diversity into the lessons such as Henry O Tanner as well as artists that are not talked about such as many female artists. I also am very aware that some students are able to learn at different paces or with different styles of teaching in which I want to accomodate for them as much as I can. I felt that working with the students individually was really able to help me teach the students have have them understand more about the content and their expectations. I also was able to differentiate in my lessons such as having an easy, medium, and hard option within creating their pieces. In the end, I want my students to feel safe and that they can talk to me at any time if they are having trouble with anything. I feel as though I was able to accomplish this very well in my student teaching and want to continue this in the future.

Disposition to focus on:

In the future I would say the one disposition I would like to further focus on is Effective Communicator. Within my student teaching I feel as though my words often got jumbled up during instruction. I was able to fix this with more preparation and more comfortability, however I feel this is something I can continue to work on in the future. I am able to show effective communication more efficiently after student teaching and after knowing what I need to do in order to be better prepared within the content and lesson. With everything there are things that I feel as though I can always improve on such as this specific disposition as well as others. As an educator, I will never stop the need/want to improve or never stop learning new things about my content and students as well. With effective communication, I feel I will need to build confidence within the classroom and build those relationships with my students right away to accomplish this more effectively in the future.

Overall I have many goals for my professional future most of those being to grow further with all of these dispositions into having a successful career and classroom. I want to be able to keep growing as an artist, educator, as well as individual building off of my students and all of the things I was able to learn from my student teaching. These dispositions are able to give me specific goals and a basis to go off of to work on in order to feel prepared and fully accomplished.
